Though I should say you have more skill in colouring... I mean, how do you do it!? xD I'm not so good with colouring because I'm so impatient I always want things done quickly!
But I like the borders! Another thing I'm not good at... organic shapes. :\
my coloring method is very simple, as you can see I used stronger light on the faces to catch the focus, I use bright low saturated colors for backlight, that's why it seems shiny (but I still can't handle it perfectly) and I never use the same shade for shadows because it would be unnatural, the reason is you can't notice it at first sight because colors affect each other strongly, so it's all about color theory
I used outer glow in photoshop as a lighting effect for the lamp and stars and multiply layer with light purple for making organic shadows on the gradient colored clothes
